Enjoyed a lovely late dinner with six friends at Solimene's, and although they were very busy, the wait was exactly as predicted and well worth it. We started with antipasto to pass around (more than enough), moved on to entrees of chicken, pasta, shrimp, generous salads and my goat cheese pizza with figs and carmelized onion - outstanding. Irresistable dessert was enough for everybody to have a bite: warm mac nut pie a la mode. They are only here till spring, so don't miss your opportunity.

We waited a long time before someone seated us at this restaurant. It seemed they were a little understaffed with 2 servers working the inside and outside dining area. The prep and and kitchen staff looked like they were just managing to get by with food service. The service was so-so because of this situation. The food was also mediocre. The mahi-mahi sandwich was more bun than fish; the pizza was fresh but full of cheese and not enouh of the other toppings. They seemed a little underbaked as well. Will I come back? Probably not, despite the servers making as much of an effort as they possibly could that day we visited.

Great place to dine. Had one of the pizzas. The mozzarella was fantastic. Very good house sauce. Very attentive service.

I know Italian food. This restaurant does Italian proud. The young, family trained Hawaiian chef has learned his trade exceptionally well. Our group truly enjoyed the fettuccine Alfredo with added assortments of either chicken, shrimp and scallops or homemade italian sausage . The mediterranean salad and dressing was tasty as well. Finishing dessert of pineapple upside down cake was delicious. The tiramisu better than Venice. All told, since opening just three months ago, they have ironed out opening jitters and are now a fine dinning experience. The early poor reviews were understandably premature. Try now and enjoy.

The people who work here are very friendly and some of them are trying their best . As we were shown across the mostly empty outdoor area to a table in a far corner, we passed two other diners, a couple that was picking at a salad and slurping up a pizza. I guess we should have known then that this was not going to be a terrific meal. We ordered a mediterranean salad to start, and my wife requested a plain pizza, and I asked for a spaghetti marinara and a glass of the house red. After a short wait, the salad and the spaghetti came together, but no wine and no pizza. We asked about the pizza and the server said she knew nothing about it because "it comes from a different station". The spaghetti marinara reminded me of the spaghetti I had in my childhood. specifically it reminded me of the spaghetti I had when my parents were late coming home one night and I decided to make dinner myself and figured if I dropped some noodles in some hot water and added a little spaghetti sauce that was all it took. I was wrong. But I came closer than Solimene's did to making spaghetti. When our original waitress appeared, we reminded her that we had ordered a pizza. Things had gotten busy and there was another table occupied. The waitress ran right off and brought out the pizza my wife had ordered, saying it "just came out". I think it came out a little too soon. This pizza was a soggy mess of undercooked dough. It was worse than the pizza you get at Dodger Stadium, which up until Sunday night was the worst pizza I'd ever had. During our meal another couple arrived and was seated not far away. When they asked the waitress about the pizza , she said "ask her, she's having it", pointing to my wife. "it's good", my wife said, not knowing what to do. After that we quickly paid the check and left, so that we wouldn't have to answer to those innocent victims when they were served their pizza and found out that we had lied to them. Of course, there's a fifty fifty chance they never go their pizza. But still, we had nothing but regrets all evening long.

That was the first day on Hawaii and, unfortunatly, we selected this "restaurant"... 1) They had several vacant tables outside, but it happend that all of them were reserved. 2) We asked for a high-chair for our kid and they bring something very "sticky". When we asked at least to clean: one from an emploee just touched several times the chair by wet cloth. 3) They proposed to bring some crayons, but finally they forgot and didn't bring. 4) We ordered some position from kid menu, but they bring quite hot plate and put it right before our kid 5) We asked for boxes: first time they bring very-very small one. And it took quite long time to wait for boxes of the normal size. 6) Finally they had already clean the table but didn't bring receipt. I rate 2 stars instead of 1 star because food were quite good.

Edible. The pasta is flavorless... And the tomato sauce is more like tomato soup. The best part about the meal is the wine.

How does this happen? We regularly ate at Solimene's when they were at the old location in Waimea. We made the extra effort to go to Waikoloa to go to Solimene's and we were sadly disappointed. We arrived at 4:50 PM and found that the place opened at 5:00PM - no problem, we'll just walk around the shops to kill time. We got back about 5 minutes after 5:00PM - about 1/3 of the restaurant is full - things are looking good. We decide we want to eat inside rather than outside, and encounter the first problem - the tabletop is sticky from not being cleaned from lunch service. There are visible glass ring marks on the table. Menu looks good - mostly the same from the Waimea days. We skip drinks and go straight for food - I get the Chicken Parm with a side salad and my wife gets the ginger pasta with mahimahi. Second problem - the salad looks like they just got it from a pre-made salad-in-a-bag and there are pieces of rotted lettuce - I pull these out and put it on a side plate and give it to the server who takes it away with no comment. Entrée arrives and my serving is huge, but the chicken looks like pre-made breaded chicken with marinara sauce and a slice of square mozzarella - yikes! I take a bite of the side plate of spaghetti and the pasta is overcooked and pasty - seriously?? My wife's pasta is better and the pasta is cooked correctly and the flavor is good. The mahimahi on top is about 3 ounces - tiny, but cooked just right. It is served with a piece of garlic bread that looked like it came from Safeway.

How blessed was I when I heard that Solomene's was at the King Shops: to sit back and enjoy one of my favorite pizzas that i thought would only be a memory, since they sold their location in Waimea, thank you for taking me down memory lane and for reminding me how blessed I am to have stumbled upon you once again, my "Sinatra" Pizza was just amazing.

We recently had a very delicious lunch at Solimene's. So sorry to hear they are not staying long. We need great Italian food in the Waikoloa area...hope they will change their minds and stay. The Fat Pig was not at all interesting to us, so hopefully they won't give up on their great Italian brand!

We have eaten at multiple restaurants on the Island for many years and this might have been our worst meal. As mentioned by others, the staff is pleasant but the service is poor. The fish served was over cooked in both my wife and daughters salad. I ordered a salad to start which arrived with the entree. My daughter ordered a glass of Chianti which they were out of which is hard to imagine in an Italian restaurant. There are many better choices on the island.

Sad successor to the great merrimans market cafe. Salad was right out of a bag with virtually no dressing. Pizza was doughy and seriously undercooked. Location does not a good meal make..don't waste time or money...inedible!

Previous reviews are garbage. Very good food at a reasonable price for the area. Service not bad for a line out the entry. Friendly wait help on a very busy night. Enjoyable.

I want to love this place. I do. I really enjoyed going to the old Solimenes in Waimea and was excited when they announced they would be opening in Waikoloa for a while. My experience with the food here has mostly been good. Food tastes fresh and is made well. My issue is with the service. Although the waitstaff are friendly, they seem undertrained and overwhelmed. The times that I went, they weren't busy - maybe two other tables inside and three outside. There were two servers and a hostess. The time it took between getting seated, getting water, and placing our order was way too long. Our food itself came out in a reasonable amount of time, but we were rarely checked on and sat with empty plates for a while before we were given the check... Then waited another ten minutes for the server to come back and ring it up. I could understand and forgive some of this if they were busy. As mentioned above, they weren't - and this wasn't just one occasion. The waitstaff seemed lost and didn't seem to have direction. I hope they figure it out and improve because I would like to come back and enjoy the experience.

This restaurant is CLOSED-Out of business, only a seasonal temp! Opening night at SOLIMENE'S Italian Restaurant in the Kings' Shops across from Three Fat Pigs Gastropub in The Waikoloa Resort. This is run by the same family that was up in Kamuela. Excited to enjoy great Italian! Opening night, food was outstanding - 5 stars. Started with a Caesar salad-gobbled every crouton up before I could take a photo. Ambience was lovely with tropical evening with a gentle breeze made for a romantic Al Fresco dining experience. Wait service was attentive in refilling water, taking order, a little slow in getting food out and processing our check but friendly service and great start for first night- 4 stars. Table was a bit wobbly but no problem just changed tables. With a little tweaking, this place is going to surpass all high expectations. Chicken Parm flavorful and breaded to perfection. Baked ziti was cheesy deliciousness. Both entrees came out hot and freshly made. Indoors there is a bar setup with TV monitor -great to watch a game and enjoy a beer or glass of wine. Selection of Italian and Australian wines-didn't drink tonight but did see a wide selection of tropical drinks and spirits. We'll be back for more.

Don't dine here! Food is terrible and the staff is extremely under trained. I know this is blunt but it's the truth. I felt bad for the server because he was very nice but the food was absolutely terrible.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
